HonorsMental images. From the pictures of our imagination to brain researchThis website has been nominated for the \\international\ media\ art\ award 2005 for science and art. This award provides a forum−through television and events open to the public−for projects and videos from the realms of both art and science. The competition is being organised jointly by Südwestrundfunk Baden-Baden (SWR) and ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe in cooperation with the Swiss television station SF DRS and ARTE. This award is the successor to the International Video Art Award, awarded for the first time in 1992. Sponsor is the Landesbank Baden-Württemberg (LBBW). "'The top fifty' - From pictures of imagination to brain research - 'mental images' is the topic of \\ media \ award 2005 for science and art... Visualized thoughts, nerve fibers in the brain, computer simulation of the process of laughing, educational medical films from the Charité in Berlin, a migraine homepage, Hitchcock's 'birds' without birds, Helsinki from the viewpoint of a blind person, drug impressions from Hollywood - this is how scientists and artists deal with the topic 'mental images'. Although participation from artists was stronger compared to scientists, 'the top fifty' is a representative international cross-section of the topic. The nominated contributions are besides from Germany, from Austria, Switzerland, the USA, France, UK, Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, China, Finland, Canada, Columbia, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and Spain. The contributions were created with video techniques and digital tools: black and white videos, computer simulations, web based works using mirror and kaleidoscope effects were numerous among the submissions. 'The top fifty' contributions to the international media award 2005 will be broadcast in the middle of October on SWR, Swiss TV DRS, ARTE, and 3sat. There will also be a media art special on the science magazine 'nano'."
