KadenzaKadenza, Aura, 2004. © 2006 Kadenza "The aura Marshie and I were just hanging out yesterday when I noticed a tiny spot in my field of vision, almost like a floater. I ignored it until I realized it was getting bigger. It was like the afterimage you get when you look at a bright light for too long, but I had done no such thing, and it continued to grow. I started to freak when I noticed that it was in both eyes, even when closed. By this time it was a large circle that filled most of the window and appeared to have wildly pulsating, colourful borders. I was beside myself with panic. (It looked kind of like this.) I made this in Photoshop this morning, pretty accurate I think. Thankfully, level-headed Marshie did a couple of Google searches and we soon determined that I was not having a stroke, but I was still extremely alarmed. A call to Telehealth Ontario advised that the wait time to speak to a nurse was well over an hour. Fortunately, I suddenly remembered this post by zero gravity from just last week describing her migraine experiences, complete with links to pictures that were eerily similar to what I was experiencing. By this time I was calmer, and the apparition had gotten so large that it began to dissipate at the edge of my vision, like a cloud passing over the sun. About 10 minutes later, it was gone and the headache hit. Indeed, it was just a migraine. Not a stroke, not a brain tumour, not a detached retina, but a lousy migraine. Scary shit, nonetheless." (Kadenza's Livejournal, Subject: The aura, April 12, 2004) "Hey guys... I think I may have experienced my first migraine aura yesterday. I posted a pic. I made in Photoshop in my journal today to try to document the experience, and then I got the idea to post it in a migraine LJ group so others who suffer from migraines can tell me if it looks familiar. I'll be interested to hear your opinions. It had never happened to me before so it kind of freaked me out, I was sure I must be having a stroke or something." (Kadenza, Livejournal for Support Group for Migraine Sufferers, April 12, 2004) "what is the background of?" (butterfly121, Livejournal for Support Group for Migraine Sufferers, April 12, 2004) "Oh, that's the scenery from my window, I was trying to duplicate exactly what I saw. Scary, ain't it." (Kadenza, Livejournal for Support Group for Migraine Sufferers, April 12, 2004) "Sure thing! I forgot all about that... I've never had another one. How did you find my post, out of curiosity?" (Email to Klaus Podoll, January 22, 2006) "Kadenza from LJ. Here's the pic you requested! I'm interested to know how you found my post... did someone mention it to you? Or wait... did I post it to a community? It was so long ago, I can barely remember. Anyway, enjoy! Heather" (Email to Klaus Podoll, January 22, 2006) "Hey, I'm glad you like it. As I remember it, that's pretty much how it looked (though it was moving and pulsating). Though I can look back on it now as an interesting experience, at the time I was absolutely terrified. The view is my city, Toronto . That's what I see out my window because I was trying to duplicate exactly what I saw, and I was looking out the window at the time I experienced the aura. The church is St. James Cathedral. Your site is very interesting! Thanks for including me." (Email to Klaus Podoll, January 22, 2006) Author: Klaus Podoll
