"I don't usually do migraine art, but the other day the drugs and the headache made me a bit loopy so I pulled out my scribblers and did this in my sketchbook"

(Jeannette Randall, Livejournal for Support Group for Migraine Sufferers, Subject: migraine art, July 11, 2005)

"The drawing was done on July 7, 2005. It's a small quick sketch in my sketchbook. Art making does not usually alleviate or lessen my migraines, but if my headache related synaesthesia isn't acting too horribly, doodling can help. I'm unsure if it's the relaxing work of doing the art or the materials I use, though. I'm willing to bet on the former as I used to use coloring books for that very thing when I was a teenager."

(Email to Klaus Podoll, July 16, 2005)

"I've done several pieces of work with blurred sections, sparkly bits, and odd lighting effects. These are all the way things look to me when I have a headache, although I don't currently recall making a concious effort to depict the visual distortions. Occasionally I reflect the sparkly effects in fantasy pieces -- as 'magic bursts' or something. However, I did deliberately use my headache experiences as a source of artistic inspiration, especially when depicting characters in a painful or stressful situation."
